Sound Healing

What is Sound Healing?

Sound healing is an effective and proven modality that uses vibrational sound to help reduce stress, alter consciousness and create a deep sense of peace, well being and better health. Healing Sound has also been shown to be effective in the healing process for cancer patients by reducing stress and aiding in pain management.

Sound helps to facilitate shifts in our brainwave state by using entrainment. Entrainment synchronizes our fluctuating brainwaves by providing a stable frequency which the brainwave can attune to. By using rhythm and frequency, we can entrain our brainwaves and it then becomes possible to down-shift our normal beta state (normal waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness), and even reach theta (meditative state) and delta (sleep; where internal healing can occur).

The use of sound equipment allows one to reach a deep state of relaxation, a place where you can let go, release any blocks or barriers you may be holding in your body and feel the energy flow. Once your energy is flowing you may find that you just “fall asleep” you may find a journey! Each individuals experience can and will vary.

Here are four of my most used instruments:

Singing Bowls:

  • Tibetan bowls work more on the cellular level of the body. Sound from Tibetan Singing Bowls entrain the brain to move into the Theta brain wave frequencies that induce deep meditative and peaceful states, clarity of mind, and intuition. The sound vibrations impact our nervous system, engaging our relaxation reflex and inhibiting the stress or pain response.
  • Crystal bowls work more on the ethereal or energetic body. Hearing the haunting sound of the crystal bowls seems to awaken an ancient remembering, touching the essence of the soul. How can we explain what it is? Is it the crystal from which the bowls are made? Is it a refrain from the ethers? Is it our connection with the source of our creation?.  Singing bowls are believed to calm and repair the mind as well as reduce stress and anxiety, lower blood pressure, improve breathing and circulation, alleviate aches and pains, strengthen the immune system, and improve the mood of the patient.

Gong: They say gong is like GOD, Generator/Organizer/Demolisher or Destructor.  Gong is like the sun.

It was said by the Ancients that if you were gonged for ten days you would be cured of anything.  The current opinion of the scientific community is that the use of sound is becoming an ever more valuable tool in the treatment of many conditions, ailments and diseases. As an alternative medicine healing modality it is being used successfully all over the World. Gong baths are having astounding and wondrous effects on a whole range of maladies.

Gong baths can help with physical, mental or spiritual problems by bringing about the transition of cellular realignment through the medium of sound.  The pure penetrating sound waves of the healing gong will enable you to break free of old patterns and regenerate and re-balance yourself. Working within all the parameters of the body there is nowhere that the resonance of the healing gong cannot penetrate. It will bypass the mind and go straight to the root of the problem.

Didgeridoo (Didge): Also known as garnbak, illpirra, martba, Jiragi, Yiraki, Yidaki. Traditionally didgeridoos were made from eucalyptus tree trunks and limbs hollowed out, while still living, by termites, (a small insect like an ant but a relative of the cockroach) or from bamboo in the far north of Australia. The Didgeridoo is a wind instrument thought to have originated in Arnhem Land, Northern Territory, Australia. Researchers have suggested it may be the world’s oldest musical instrument, over 40,000 years old. The didge also works to entrain your brain and allow you to enter dream-time (the time before time), where inner visions can be experienced.

Other tools include: Drums and Rattles, Flutes, Chimes, Tingshas, Rain sticks, etc.
